- Central New York Society for the
Prevention of Cruelty to Animals. "Since its founding in 1891,
the Central New York Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals has
been on a mission to alleviate suffering, prevent cruelty and promote
kindness to all animals. It was originally founded to protect draft horses
and mules pulling barges on the Erie Canal. This private, not-for-profit
organization built its first shelter in 1904 on Belden Avenue in the city
of Syracuse. The existing shelter on East Molloy Road was built in 1955
and has since been renovated and expanded. It is the third such society to
be incorporated in the US and serves the animal population of Central New
York. We provide shelter for animals who have been abandoned, lost,
surrendered by their owners and those seized by our Cruelty Investigators.
The CNYSPCA receives its funding from varied sources: fundraising events;
surrender and adoption fees; memberships and donations; bequests from
animal lovers; contracts with some municipalities to provide shelter to
animals seized by their dog control officers; a contract with Onondaga
County which subsidizes a portion of our Education, Spay/Neuter and
Cruelty Investigation Programs, and grants from charitable foundations.

- Greyhound Walking Club
of Central New York. "Founded in 2001, The Greyhound Walking
Club of Central New York is an organization dedicated to supporting the
greyhound adoption community and its adopters. The GWC meets on a regular
basis to walk the parks and public areas in and around Syracuse, providing
opportunities for both human and canine fellowship and socialization. We
welcome the participation of all, including those interested in greyhound
adoption and non-greyhound owners. The GWC is an all-volunteer,
not-for-profit, charitable corporation. The GWC is a non-political
advocate and promoter of the adoption of greyhounds after their racing
career. To that end, the GWC supports all responsible greyhound adoption
groups."
